The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources’ Coastal Preserves Program was developed in 1992 by authority of the Wetlands Protection Act. The program ensures the ecological health of Mississippi’s coastal wetlands by acquiring, protecting and managing these sensitive ecosystems. Mississippi’s Coastal Preserves program currently includes approximately 30,000 of the 72,000 acres of Mississippi’s coastal wetlands.
